David James Archuleta was born on December 28th 1990 to Lupe and Jeff Archuleta. He is the 2nd eldest of 5 children; Claudia, David, Daniel, Jazzy, and Amber. At the age of 6 his family moved to Sandy, Utah. David and his brother, Daniel, were given a Les Miserables CD to listen to whilst everyone else unpacked. David began to sing it, and by the end of the day he’d memorized the whole thing and sang pitch-perfectly to his family.

A well known vocal coach heard David, after his father (Jeff)’s persuation. He coached David for a while before he moved. At the age of 10, David entered the Utah talent show and won. When he was 12, David was asked by the same vocal coach, who was the director of Star Search, to audition. He did, and a few months later, he won. He gave $10,000 of his winnings to his church. He wanted to go on his mission then, but unfortunately, he was too young.

A few years later, in 2007, David auditioned for the 7th season of American Idol. His rendition of John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ blew everyone away and received a standing ovation, with good comments from a 3 judges. However, 2 weeks later, David flubbed the lyrics to ‘We Can Work It Out’ during Beatles week. The next week he came back strong. Through it all, he wasn’t in the bottom 3 throughout the entire competition. He nearly always received good comments from Simon, and was loved by all the judges. However, he came in 2nd in the competition, falling short of about 16,000 votes.

On August 1st, he launched his debut single, ‘Crush’, which debuted #2 in the Billboards. Crush went on strong, coming in 1st place a few weeks in a row on Vh1’s weekly countdown. In the 2008 TCA David won an award for Most Fanatic Fans, and was the presenting an award together with the AI winner, David Cook.

On Nov 11th 2008 David released his first album, featuring Crush. Sales soared high. Later, in Dec, he released another single from his album. The song was A Little Too Not Over You (ALTNOY), however, things didn’t work out as well for this song as it did for Crush.

The next year, in Jan of ‘09, he went for his first tour, singing in sold out venues with Lesley Roy. Tickets for his concert in his hometown, Utah, were sold out within 5 minutes of being on sale. He is scheduled to perform in Europe – with band McFly, as well as in Asia.
